Scott J. Smith – Event Marketing Director

Scott has had a fondness for the Madison area since he attended college at UW in the late 1980s. He holds a degree in film, but found that the power of words was also a passion. His pursuit of a career in journalism led him to Orlando, FL where he began working for a bi-weekly newsmagazine; first as a nightlife columnist, then film critic, editorial assistant, and finally editor. When he moved back to Wisconsin, he brought with him the knowledge he gained as an editor and applied it to marketing and public relations. Scott knows what catches an editor’s eye. And he’s always ready to talk to people about the events Purple Door manages and how they’re “good for Madison.” As marketing director he: 

  • Oversees public relations campaigns.
  • Secures media support and sponsorship.
  • Manages promotional campaigns including print, radio and television advertisements, banners, press releases, media contact lists, mailings, posters, programs, etc.
  • Raises funds and/or community awareness of a client’s brand and/or those of any other collaborating organizations that the client may be affiliated with.
  • Speaks with the media on-air or in-print to promote the events.
  • Purchases media.
  • Co-coordinates event entertainment with our radio partner.
  • Seeks out and apply for grants.
  • Supervises the development of merchandising.
  • Assists with sponsorship proposals.
  • Follows through with sponsorships to guarantee that contracts are fulfilled.
  • Maintains event website(s).
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining relationships with returning, new and perspective sponsors.
